For general auto repair shops

Auto repair shop software for the front desk, not the bay

Auto repair shop software for the front desk: keep the system your repair orders live on and give us the phone, the texts and the reviews.

14-day free trial, every feature unlocked, no credit card required

SV Owner on a phone: the shop's alerts showing a missed call from Priya Sandhu sixteen minutes ago with the note that she was texted back automatically, the inbox reading one thread waiting on you with her conversation marked Needs reply, the call log carrying that call with her voicemail on it, the transcript of what she said (a price on the five-year ceramic for a Macan, and whether she can drop it on a Saturday), and the text that went back a minute after the call, which nobody typed.

For a general repair shop, Service VIN is the front desk and marketing layer that runs alongside the shop system you already have.

The short answer

Is Service VIN a shop management system for an auto repair shop?

No. Service VIN is not a shop management system for auto repair and does not write a repair order. It is the front desk and the marketing layer that runs alongside the one you already have: the phone answered, every missed call texted back in seconds, calls recorded, reviews asked and your ads measured.

  • Every missed call is texted back from your own carrier-registered number within seconds, on every path a call can be missed, including the one that just rings out.
  • Calls are recorded, transcribed and summarised onto the customer's own thread, so the advisor who picks it up tomorrow can read what was said today.
  • Texts come from the shop line rather than an advisor's personal mobile, so the conversation stays with the business when the advisor moves on.
  • The review ask goes out on its own after the car leaves, and your Google Ads spend is reported against the work it actually brought in.
  • It needs no migration: your repair orders, parts and labour times stay exactly where they are.

Bottom line: Your shop system is a system of record. It is not a receptionist, and on most days that is the job that is going unfilled.

What it does today

The phone your shop system was never going to answer

An advisor at the counter with a customer in front of them is an advisor not on the phone, and the caller who reaches voicemail dials the next shop rather than waiting. The front desk answers, texts back and writes it all onto one thread.

The call that rings out, answered
A caller who reaches nobody gets a text from your own shop number within seconds, before they finish dialling the next shop. It fires on every path a call can be missed, not only the obvious one.
One line the whole counter can see
Texts leave from the shop number rather than an advisor's personal mobile, and every call, text and quote threads onto the customer's record, so tomorrow's advisor reads what today's one said.
Recorded, transcribed, summarised
Every call is on the thread with a summary and the follow-up drafted for one-tap send. You approve anything that goes out, and quiet hours and opt-outs are enforced in code.

And the half after the car leaves

Reviews asked, ads measured, documents delivered

The work that fills next month happens after the keys go back, and it is the work that gets dropped first on a busy Friday. The review ask, the ads report and the customer's own secure pages all run whether anybody remembered or not.

The review ask, on its own
The ask goes out after the car leaves instead of when somebody remembers, and the private feedback comes back to you rather than to a public listing.
Ads measured against real work
Your Google Ads spend is reported beside the jobs it actually brought in, so the question is what a booked car cost you rather than what a click cost you.
A secure page for every document
Quotes, invoices and receipts are served to the customer on their own expiring link, so nothing important is an attachment somebody has to go looking for.

What you get, and what you keep

The phone, the missed call, texting, reviews, your Google Ads and their return, booking requests, quotes for work that needs no parts catalogue, and a secure page for every quote, invoice and receipt.

It does not do labour guides, parts ordering or digital inspections yet. Keep your shop system for the repair order. Give us the phone.

What the front desk costs an auto repair shop

Four flat plans for the whole shop, Essentials $79, Growth $199, Operations $299, Command $399 in US dollars, with no per-seat charge, so a second advisor never moves the bill. The phone line and the call intelligence are on the Operations plan at $299 a month, and every plan starts with a 14-day free trial with every feature unlocked.

Your arithmetic

About 4 jobs a month — $6,500 of work.

If one of those becomes a job this month, the front desk paid for itself 5.0× over.

Your numbers, not ours. We don't publish other shops' recovery rates. The Operations plan is $299 a month, so the multiple above is one job of the size you typed against one month of the offer.

Start with the call you missed. It is included on the Operations plan, with your own business number, and it sits beside whatever you run the repair order on, so there is no migration to start and nothing to retrain anybody on.

Where to start

It starts with the call you missed.

Every missed call answered in seconds. The quote you promised, drafted before you hang up. Booked straight into your calendar.

It answers from your real services, your real prices and your real calendar — and writes the booking into them. No migration, no data to move — it runs beside whatever you use today.

The front desk for a repair shop, answered

Do I have to leave Tekmetric, Shopmonkey or AutoLeap to use this?

No, and you should not. Your shop system holds the repair order, the labour times and the parts, and this does not touch any of that. It takes the phone, the texting, the reviews, the ads and the secure pages your customer reads, and it runs beside the system you already have. Nothing is exported and nothing is retyped.

What actually happens when a call rings out?

The caller gets a text from your own shop number within seconds, before they have finished dialling the next shop on their list. It happens on every path a call can be missed, including the forward that rings out and the shop with no receptionist configured at all, and the reply lands in one shared inbox your whole counter can see.

Does it do labour guides, parts ordering or digital inspections?

No. Those are the three things this does not do for a repair shop, and they are named in the same words on this page rather than left for a trial to discover. Keep your shop system for the repair order. What comes over here is the front desk and everything a customer reads.

Will the texts come from my shop number or from a stranger?

From your shop number, on a carrier-registered line, which is what stops a filtered message quietly not arriving. It is also what keeps the thread with the business: a customer who has been texting an advisor's personal mobile for two years leaves with the advisor, and that has cost more shops more work than any software decision.

Can it answer the phone with AI, and can I read what it said?

Yes to both. The AI front desk answers from the services and prices you gave it, and every call it takes is recorded, transcribed and summarised onto the customer's thread with the follow-up drafted for one-tap send. You approve anything it sends, and quiet hours and opt-outs are enforced in code rather than asked of a model.

Can customers book online with it?

They can send a booking request. Your storefront takes the car, the concern and a time they want, and it arrives on the customer's thread for your advisor to slot into your own schedule. It is deliberately not writing into your shop system, because that is a two-way integration we do not have and will not claim.

How much does it cost, and how long before it is running?

Essentials $79, Growth $199, Operations $299 and Command $399 in US dollars, flat per shop, with no per-seat charge, and the phone line and call intelligence on the Operations plan at $299 a month. Because there is nothing to migrate, a repair shop is usually live the same week: a number, your hours, your services, your voice. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial with every feature unlocked.

Who should not buy this?

A shop looking to replace its shop management system today should not, because this is not that yet. A collision shop should not, because that work runs on insurer estimating platforms. A dealership service department cannot, because the manufacturer picks the system. And a shop whose phone is genuinely always answered is buying something it does not need.

Does it handle GST/HST and CASL?

Tax: your shop sets one rate and every line on an invoice is taxable or exempt against it, so GST at 5 percent or HST at 13 or 15 is a setting rather than a workaround, and the sales-tax report gives your bookkeeper the taxable base, the exempt base and the tax actually charged on an accrual or a cash basis. What it does not do is split one invoice across two provincial rates, because there is a single shop-wide rate and no per-line rate in the data; if you bill at two rates, check that first. CASL is not a switch somebody flips but a set of rails: service and appointment messages are treated separately from marketing, marketing is counted against a per-customer limit, quiet hours and opt-outs are enforced in code, and an opt-out applies across the whole shop. The SMS policy page sets out the rules the product follows, and nothing here is legal advice.
