What makes one removal three times another
Age, mostly. Paint protection film is a urethane with an adhesive designed to release cleanly for a defined life. Inside that life, heat and patience get it off in large pieces. Past it, the film has hardened, the adhesive has cross-linked and the two no longer separate the way they were designed to.
That is the mechanism behind the adhesive line in the table. It is not a shop finding extra work; it is hours of heat, solvent and a plastic blade, and the alternative is leaving glue on your paint.
The second factor is what the film was. Cheap PVC-based films are the ones that go brittle soonest, and they are the ones owners most often report coming off in flecks. Premium urethane films are also the ones with long warranties, which is not a coincidence.
The risk worth asking about
